Universalists rewriting history
Many Universalists have a tendency to rewrite history in order to promote their belief of Christian Universalism.
Tentmaker
Gary Amirault features a list of Christian Universalists on his website Tentmaker.org. https://www.tentmaker.org/tracts/Universalist.html However, he also lists "
- All the Hebrew Prophets who prophesied of the coming of the Messiah
- Jesus Christ (John 12:32)
- Paul, the Apostle (never used the word "Hell" once) (1 Tim. 4:9-11)
- John the Apostle (John 4:42)"
Which is an utterly impossible claim.
First, there are many Hebrew Prophets that prophesied the coming of the Messiah and there are many Jewish people who believed in Annihilationism. The odds for every single one of them in the diverse melting pot of beliefs of The Old Testament to believe in Christian Universalism is extremely unlikely.
Second, Jesus Christ talks about hell on numerous occassions. To try to sum up the viewpoint of God in a single verse like (John 12:32) is the definition of cherrypicking.
Third, just because someone doesn't mention something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Paul, the Apostle never used the word "Tartarus" yet Tartarus as a realm surely exists.
Fourth, just because Jesus is the "savior of the world" doesn't mean universal salvation is true. By "world" if it's just referring to Earth then that's at most an Anthropo Universalism. Someone can be the "world's best savior" but still not save absolutely everyone in the world, as it can be used by comparison since there's no one else who will save the world as well as Him.
